Register now to save your spot on the 2008 Juneau Youth Sailing Race Team. The 2008 JYS Race Team will be coached by Chris Miller, one of the founding fathers of JYS, a US Sailing certified instructor, experienced sailing and race captain, and TransAtlantic cruising sailor. The Race Team is open to all sailors who have successfully completed our level two course. For those sailors interested in learning how to fly a spinnaker and sailboat racing, this is the next skill level for you. The Race Team differs in two significant ways from other sailing classes offered by JYS. Race Team practice runs throughout the summer from mid-June until mid-August, meeting Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday noon - 4:30 pm each week. Because the Race Team meets throughout the summer, each team member has their own personal drysuit which is a one-time fee included in the cost of first year Race Team membership. Because of the time it takes for an order of drysuits to be delivered, race team registration will be closed after March 15. The fee for Race Team is $250 plus the one time $210 cost for a dry suit (total of $460 first year or $250 for racers with their own dry suit). Each year the Race Team participates in the NW Regional Junior Olympics which will be held this summer on Lake Washington August 22 - 24. Required costs for participation in the JOs include: membership in US Sailing and event registration fee. Costs for transportation, room and board will also need to be considered by each racer. Chaperones are provided by JYS, but parents are invited and encouraged to attend. For more information contact us: juneauyouthsailinginc@gmail.com. |
